Joan E. Hoyer

Joan E. Hoyer, 87, died Sunday, July 22, 2007 at her home in Sabula, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Sabula, Iowa, with Father James Secora as Celebrant. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m.,Wednesday, at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston, Iowa with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. to follow the visitation. Memorial’s may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, Sabula, or Mercy Home Care Hospice, Clinton, Iowa, in Joan’s name. .
Joan was born on March 8, 1920, the daughter of Frank W. and Genevieve (Schneider) Withhart in Savanna. She attended Savanna Schools graduating from Savanna High School.
On July 4, 1940, Joan married Joseph E. Hoyer in Clinton, Iowa. Joseph passed away on December 16, 1993. Joan enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. She liked reading, crocheting, playing cards and being a caretaker to many. Joan was a former member of the Carmen Auxillary.
Joan will be dearly missed by three sons, Dennis (Faith) Hoyer of Sabula; Jerry (Karyn) Hoyer of Walnut Creek, CA. and Todd (Amy) Hoyer of Cedar Falls, IA; one daughter, Wendy (Raymond) House of Preston, IA; and (close as a daughter), Rosann (Larry) Raymond of Camanche, IA; eighteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Withhart of Rockford, IL and one sister, Mary Katherine Frosch of Milwaukee, WI.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Claudia Franzen; two sisters, Helen Palmeri and Genevieve Winkler; two great grandchildren, Grant Franzen and Erin Kelly.
