Joan "Jo Ann" Olmsted

Joan “Jo Ann” Olmsted, age 87, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date. Joan was born August 14, 1930, to Alice Corrado in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Hale Elementary School and Lindblom High School in Chicago. On September 4, 1948, Joan married George Olmsted. They moved to Elizabeth in 1985, and celebrated 69 years of marriage together.

Joan worked for Western Electric, Jewel-Osco, and then as a homemaker, raising their two children. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, cooking and baking. Most of all, Joan loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Joan will be dearly missed by her husband, George; two children, Gerry (Sandy) Olmsted of Orland Park, Illinois and Deborah (Nick) Hernandez of Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Kate, Greg, Gina and Tony; three great-grandsons, William, Brady, and Corey; and one brother, Anthony (Sue) Corrado.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Erin in 1997, and two sisters, Loretta Strabel and Ilene Fasko.
