Jo Ann Ross

Jo Ann Ross, age 78 of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, May 4, 2015 at home. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Savanna with Reverend Daniel Foelske officiating. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Jo Ann was born September 25, 1936, the daughter of Joseph and Edna (Traum) Kuhse in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. She attended Milledgeville and Chadwick Schools and graduated with the Class of 1954. She married Charles Ross on September 7, 1956—they later separated, but still remained friends.
As a young lady, Jo Ann worked in her parent’s restaurant, for a local attorney and in the accounting department of Kraft Foods in Milledgeville, Illinois. Later, while raising her kids, she was a homemaker, and babysat other children. Jo Ann went on to work at THE National Bank for several years as a bookkeeper, the Human Resources Department at Maclean-Fogg in Savanna, and also as an insurance representative for AAL (Aid Association for Lutherans). She also worked as a clerk at the Department of Human Services, Mt. Carroll and The Answer Fitness Gym in Savanna.
Jo Ann was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Savanna, where she served as a past church secretary and Sunday school teacher, as well as serving on several committees, Lydians and Ladies Aid, and singing in the choir. She enjoyed square dancing—belonging to several area clubs. She also loved the outdoors, and spent time fishing and camping with her grandchildren.
Jo Ann will be dearly missed by three sons, Craig (Colleen) Ross of Jemez Springs, New Mexico, Douglas Ross of Fulton, Illinois and Jon (Teresa) Ross of Savanna; two daughters Jean Shepherd of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Janet (Lonny) Bright of Eldena, Illinois; one son-in-law, Emil Wright of Rogue River, Oregon; 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one daughter, Julie Wright; a grandson, Collin Ross; one brother, Owen Kuhse, and a sister, Darlene Schleuning.
