Jim David Shaffer, age 73, of Chadwick, Illinois passed away Thursday February 1, 2024 at OSF St. Anthony Hospital Rockford, surrounded by his loved ones. A graveside service will be held at 1:15 pm Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held 11am-1pm Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Law Jones Funeral Home, Thomson.
Jim was born February 11, 1950 in Chicago, the son of Roy and Mildred "Penny" (Robertson) Shaffer. He is a 1969 graduate of Thornridge High School, Dolton, Illinois. Jim served in the US Army Special Forces, 82nd Airborne as a Green Beret in Vietnam. He retired from 3M in Cordova, Illinois. In his free time he enjoyed his conversations, talking and spending his time with his kids and grandkids, and he enjoyed being behind his grill. He also loved his PBS shows. For many years Jim served as a Volunteer Firefighter and EMT, including instructing CPR trainings and teaching the Fire Safety house for many years.
Jim is survived by his four children, Bryant Shaffer of Clinton, Iowa, Katie (Justin) Wilkinson of Chadwick, Anna Shaffer of Thomson, and Andrew (Christina) Shaffer of Thomson ; six grandchildren, Jovie, Adelle, Brycen, Elise, Owen and Declan; three siblings, Patricia (Steve) Anderson, Mary (Scott) Pelke and Robert (Cindy) Shaffer; and his dear friend and squad mate, Bryant and Diane Krause of South Dakota. Jim is preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Judith Antill, and brother-in-law, Jim Antill.
