Jerry Marquez Jr. was a strong silent guy that loved telling jokes. He entered into eternity at the age of 77, on March 5, 2014 in Savanna, Illinois. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Almost Home Animal Society, P.O. Box 123, Savanna, Illinois.
Jerry was born October 12, 1936, the son of Jerry Marquez Sr. and Josephine (Rodriguez) Marquez in Gamerco, New Mexico. On January 28, 1961 Jerry married Maizie McClure in Fort Lewis, Washington. Jerry served in the United States Army and was stationed in Greenland. After his Honorable discharge from the Army, Jerry went to work as a Quality Assurance Specialist as a civilian with the Department of the Army which allowed his family to travel around the United States, Germany and Korea.
Jerry enjoyed bowling, square dancing, traveling, camping, building bird houses. Most of all Jerry cherished the time he spent playing games with his family and friends.
Jerry will be dearly missed by his wife, Maizie of Savanna; one daughter, Lori Berant of Portland, Oregon; a son, Darin Marquez of Kewanee, Illinois; two brothers and four sisters. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, a son in-law, Joe Berant and two brothers.
