Jerome William Reuter, age 87, of Charlotte, IA, passed away January 20, 2025, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, IA. A funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 28, at Assumption Catholic Church in Charlotte, IA. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, before Mass. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
Jerome was born November 22, 1937, in Sugar Creek, IA, the son of William and Lidwina (Franzen) Reuter. He attended Sugar Creek schools through the eighth grade before becoming a full-time farmer on his family’s land. On June 1, 1960, Jerome married Carol Skoff. They would go on to purchase a farm in Charlotte, where they kept dairy cows, as well as hogs and beef cattle at different points.
Always a hard-working man, Jerome farmed both his and his family land and sold seed corn for Cornelius Seed. He was active in his community as well, volunteering his time to the church, both in a maintenance roll, and as a council member. He was a member of FFA Alumni, and the Lions Club. He also was a dutiful member of the Fire Dept. coffee club, or “BS session” as his family called it.
In his younger years, Jerome loved to take his sweetheart, Carol, out dancing, and always enjoyed a good card game. He looked forward to tractor pulls and bus trips, and loved to go to farm sales with his brother-in-law, Donnie. He and Donnie are probably sitting up in heaven right now, sipping their coffee and watching over any and all farm sales across the country!
Jerome lived a life full of hard work, and love for his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years, Carol; children, Karla (Mike) Winkler, of Goose Lake, IA, Marlene (Kenny) Assenmacher, of Charlotte, Sherri (Keith) Bormann, of Preston, IA, and Kevin (Sue) Reuter, of Preston; eleven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Madonna Heister and Pat (Harold) McClure; sister-in-law, Betty (Clyde) Weinschenk; brothers-in-law, Leo Trenkamp, Bob (Karen) Skoff, Ed (Arlene) Skoff, and Jim (Peg) Skoff; and many nieces and nephews. Jerome is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lidwina; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Margaret Skoff; daughter, Kelly LaMaack; great-granddaughter Adeline Winkler; sisters, Viola (Russell), Irene, Mary Ann (Sylvester), and Bernadette (Donnie); brother, Francis; and brother-in-law, Daniel.
