Jerald (Jerry) E. Michaelsen, age 67, of Sabula, Iowa passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007, at River Park Nursing Facility, Rock Island, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, Iowa with Reverend Robert Krueger officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery, rural Sabula. Friends may call from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, Iowa, one hour prior to service. A memorial fund has been established for the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula, Iowa in Jerry’s memory.
Jerry was born January 9, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Donald and Edna (Andersen) Michaelsen. His early childhood years were spent in the Clinton area. He attended Sabula High School graduating in 1959. Jerry married his wife of 47 years, Ruby, on October 30, 1959 in Sabula, Iowa.
Jerry was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula, Iowa. He was employed by E.I.DuPont, Clinton, Iowa retiring in 2002 with 37 years of service.
Jerry loved farming. He enjoyed sitting and talking with strangers, as well as friends. He was a guy who everyone liked. Above all else he loved his family, to whom he devoted his life. The time he spent with his grandchildren was priceless.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Ruby of Sabula; one son, Rick (Lisa) of Long Grove, Iowa; his mother Edna of Savanna, Illinois; three brothers Leroy (Kathy) of Thomson, Illinois; Gary (Mary Jo) of Sparta, Wisconsin and Jim (Lori) of Camanche, Iowa; five grandchildren, Donna and Ryan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dani of New Liberty, Iowa, Miranda and Kirsten of Long Grove, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, his father in-law, Earlo Marburger of Sabula and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry is preceded in death by his Dad, Don, his son, Randy and his mother in-law, Eva Marburger. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
