Jeffrey Henak, age 43, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital after enduring many years of heart-related health issues. A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Sabula VFW. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Born on February 11, 1982, Jeffrey was the beloved son of Richard Henak and Lorna Ralston. He spent his early childhood in Oxford Junction before his family settled in Sabula, where he attended Sabula Schools and formed lifelong roots.
From a young age, Jeff had a natural aptitude for hands-on work. He went straight into the workforce after school, earning a reputation as a reliable and skilled handyman. In 2008, Jeff married Tiffany Castro. Though they later separated, they remained devoted co-parents and good friends. Together, they raised four children who were the center of Jeff’s world. He found great joy in taking them on camping trips, visiting water parks, and fishing. In recent years, Jeff found happiness scouring thrift stores for antiques and vintage treasures. He was always busy, with perpetually dirty hands from tinkering and fixing—true to his nature. When not working or with family, Jeff found solace in music and taking rides on his bike with his close friend Eric. He often frequented local bars to enjoy live performances, finding community and comfort in those familiar spaces.
Jeff is survived by his four children, Logan Henak of Sabula, Hayden Henak, Kendyll Henak, and Brecken Henak; their mother, Tiffany Drowns; his mother, Lorna O’Bryant of Sabula; father, Richard Henak of Oxford Junction; his sisters, Charity Henak of Clinton and Courtney Henak of Oxford Junction; his brother, Wesley Henak-Minnaert of Olin; one half-sibling; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his infant twin brother, Jason; his maternal and paternal grandparents; several aunts and uncles; and one half-sibling.
