Jeffrey Gibbs, age 64, of rural Lanark, Illinois passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at home in the care of his loving family. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with a time of sharing at 7:00 p.m.
Jeff was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, cutting wood, and boating on the Mississippi. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Thirteen years ago, he met the love of his life, Glenalee Brown, while he was teaching Line-Dancing. One of his favorite things was just being home with Glenalee.
Jeff was born February 11, 1955 in Sterling, Illinois, the son of Merle and Carole (Schreiner) Gibbs. He is a graduate of the Milledgeville High School with the Class of 1974. After High School, Jeff worked with his father in the family business for a few years, Gibbs Drywall. He then began his own career of truck driving. Jeff loved the freedom of driving as an owner-operator. He would say, “I’ll back my tractor under whatever will pay,” so he hauled almost anything from refrigerated items, flatbed steel, live fish, petroleum, and anything in a trailer. He was known for customizing his own trucks. Later on he also worked for Specialized Equipment in Coleta, Ritchie Excavating in Savanna, and Freedom Township plowing snow.
Jeff will be dearly missed by his fiancé, Glenalee (Kingery) Brown of rural Lanark; two children, son Jacob Gibbs of rural Mt. Carroll and daughter Shanna (Rick) Hill of Stockton; his mother, Carol Gibbs of Milledgeville; and his brother, Jerry (Bobbie) Gibbs of Milledgeville. Jeff is preceded in death by his father, Merle in 1983.
