Jeannine Adele Swett passed away on August 13, 2026, at La Salle County Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, August 21, at Law Jones Funeral Home, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, in Hanover.
Jeannine was born December 21, 1929, the daughter of Elias and Hazel (McClave) Morrison. She grew up in the Hanover area and graduated from Hanover High School, where she met the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Swett. The two were married on August 29, 1948, at First Presbyterian Church in Hanover.
Jeannine worked for many years at the Savanna Army Depot, remaining there until its closing. She later went to work for Eaton Yale and Towne, where she remained until her retirement. Throughout her life, Jeannine was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church in Hanover, which later became United Presbyterian Church. Her faith and church family were important to her, and she was active in the church’s women’s organization.
Jeannine and Jerry were happiest simply enjoying life together. They loved camping, first at Timber Lake and later at Seven Eagles, and their beloved cocker spaniels, Lucky and Ginger, were always along for the adventure. They spent countless evenings bowling and playing cards with good friends, creating friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. Jeannine was the last surviving member of their longtime card club, a group that held a special place in her heart.
In her younger years, Jeannine enjoyed ceramics and sewing, and throughout her life she loved the thrill of finding a treasure while thrifting. More than any hobby, however, Jeannine found her greatest joy in caring for the people she loved. As Jerry’s health declined, she devoted herself to caring for him. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose home was always a place of warmth and welcome. She showed her love through caring for others, and no one ever left her house hungry.
Jeannine will be dearly missed by her son, Steven and his wife, Debbie; three grandchildren, Kimberly, Steven Jr., and Robert “R.J.” Swett; five great-grandchildren, Adelyn, Tyler, Landen, Caleb, and Hayden Swett; sister-in-law, Norma Lehr. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Hazel; father-in-law and mother-in-lawm Leaman and Lena Swett; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Diestelmeier, Betty Traum and Jeanne Harris; two brothers-in-law, Harold Swett and Gary Lehr; and her two beloved cocker spaniels, Lucky and Ginger.
