At the age of 88, Jeanne passed into Heaven surrounded by her family from the Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna with Reverend Sejoon Jang officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the Church. A luncheon gathering will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given for the Church or the Mt. Carroll Vet Clinic to neuter and spay pets.
Jeanne was born January 6, 1926 in Savanna, the daughter of Loyal and Harriette (Schuyler) Weidman. She is a Savanna High School graduate. Jeanne attended Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, receiving her teaching degree. She taught forty years in Rock Falls, Canton, Freeport and Savanna. Jeanne was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Savanna, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the Church Choir for many years. She volunteered with Girl Scouts and was a member of PEO, NEA, IRTA and CCRTA. Jeanne enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading mysteries, and taking care of animals, especially cats and dogs. As a 2nd grade teacher, many students knew her as "the tooth-puller" as she assisted many kids in this rite of passage.
Jeanne will be dearly missed by her brother, William (Letty) Weidman of Savanna; her sister, Jill Schuyler Taplin of Belvidere, Illinois; four nieces, Becky Weidman, Lisa Kirane, Tracy Boettcher and Jennifer Davis; a nephew, David Weidman; three great nieces; five great nephews; and two great-great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
