Jeanette A. Knauer-Lyons, age 90, of Stockton, Illinois, died on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabeth. Reverend Kenneth Arndt will officiate. A visitation will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in the Woodbine Cemetery, Woodbine, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established in Jeanette’s memory.
Jeanette was born on November 19, 1920, the daughter of Louis Bernard and Ann Gertrude (Groth) McCollins in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended The Visitation Academy and later graduated with her Teaching Certificate from Clark College in Dubuque. She married Ralph C. Knauer on January 31, 1948. Ralph passed away on May 4, 1992. Jeanette later married Glen L. Lyons on January 14, 1995.
Jeanette taught several different grade levels in the Rockford, Elizabeth and Stockton school districts before retiring after 34 years of teaching. She was a member of the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jeanette served as Treasurer of the Jo Daviess County Retired Teachers Association, President for the Stockton Women’s Club and as an Election Judge in Stockton. Jeanette enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and playing the piano. She also enjoyed traveling and playing cards with friends. Most of all, Jeanette cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Jeanette will be dearly missed by her husband, Glenn Lyons of Stockton, one son, Chris Knauer of Galena; one daughter, Marcia (James) Drogue of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Chad Knauer of Davie, Florida, Cory Knauer of Galena, Stacy (Jonathan) Sproule of Republic, Missouri, Tricia (Jon) Levenhagen of Sun Prairie, Jason (Tiffany) Drogue of Sun Prairie and Jennifer Drogue of San Diego, California; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Monica McCollins of Dubuque.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph and one brother, John McCollins.
