Jean Ann Skow, age 81, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Eagle Point Nursing Home, Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Michael Wey officiating. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Jean’s memory.
Jean was born on May 22, 1928, the daughter of Ray and Cora Coughenour in Collins, Iowa. She graduated from Collins High School in Collins, Iowa. Jean married William James Skow on January 8, 1953. William passed away on November 1, 2002.
Jean was a Homemaker who loved taking care of her family and also babysat children in her spare time. She was also a Housekeeper at Laws Motel in Savanna for nine years. Jean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Savanna V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary and the Savanna Moose Lodge. Jean loved cooking and baking, especially pies and cakes. Most of all, Jean loved spending time with her family and friends.
Jean will be dearly missed by her four daughters, Nancy (Carl) Carpenter of Princeton, Iowa; Marlene (Tom) Sorensen of Savanna, Sandy (Troy) Jones of Cleveland, Tennessee, Sharon (Curt) Arndt of Fredonia, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Daisey (Scott) Lampe of Low Moor, Iowa, Christopher (Chelsea) Carpenter of Mountain Home, Idaho (currently stationed in Iraq), Charlene Sorensen of Savanna, and Miranda and Megan Jones of Cleveland, Tennessee; one step great granddaughter, Savannah; three sisters and one brother.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; and one brother.
