Jean Dauphin, age 88, of Freeport, Illinois, formerly of Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Provena St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Freeport. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Community United Church of Christ, Savanna, with Rev. Nancy Wilkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Savanna Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, prior to the funeral at church. Memorials may be directed to the Community United Church of Christ, Savanna.
Jean was born May 16, 1922, in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Lucille (Moore) Helbling. She graduated from Savanna High School. Jean married Paul Dauphin on August 8, 1942, at the Community United Church of Christ in Savanna. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Jean worked for Interstate Power, and the A &P and Sullivans Grocery Store in Savanna. In her younger years she was a member of the Junior Women’s Club and the Savanna Service Club, and volunteered at the Savanna Thrift Shop and Food Pantry. Jean was a lifelong member of the Community United Church of Christ in Savanna, where she was very involved in church activities.
Jean is survived and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Kathy (Tom) Schauer of Pearl City, Illinois; one son, Dave (Sue) Dauphin of Albany, Illinois; six grandchildren, Melissa Baker, Melissa Dauphin, Lorie (Jason) Jensen, Randy (Nichole) Schauer, Shaun Schauer, and Tom (Vanessa) Biasi; eleven great grandchildren, two great – great grandchildren; two sisters in – law, Hazel Brinkmeier of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, and Margaret Dauphin of Mt. Carroll; two brothers in – law, Fred (Geraldine) Dauphin of Savanna, Illinois, and Eldon Baxter of Davenport, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Dauphin; and her twin sister, Joyce Baxter.
