Jean S. Bowden

Jean S. Bowden, age 80, of Clinton, Iowa, formerly of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at home. Cremation rites will be accorded. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Savanna Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Savanna VFW or the Clinton Humane Society.
Jean was born January 5, 1931, in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of Harold F. and Blanche H. (Atkins) Resel. She graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1948. Jean married James E. Neis in 1949, they later divorced. She married Allan “Ray” Bowden on May 28, 1960, in Lanark, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1992.
Jean was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. She attended First Presbyterian Church in Savanna and was an active participant in Bible Study. Jean moved to Clinton, Iowa, in 2007 to be closer to her son Michael. She loved quilting and making afghans.
Jean is survived and lovingly remembered by one son, Michael J. Neis of Clinton, Iowa; three granddaughters, Brandi Slattery, Maria Neis, and Jessica Bowden; three great granddaughters, Madelein Slattery, Olivia Slattery, and Evelyn Slattery; and one great grandson, Jonathan Slattery; and two sisters, Helen Hollaway of Sterling, Illinois, and Connie (Dennis) Zink of Savanna, Illinois.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Allan “Ray” Bowden; one son, Mark E. Bowden; and one brother, Harold James Resel.
