Jason L. Truninger, age 79, of Savanna, Illinois passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Savanna, with Military Rites accorded by the Savanna V.F.W. Post #2223 and the American Legion Post #148. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for local charities.
Jason was born August 18, 1933 in Savanna, the son of Kenneth and Blanche (Law) Truninger. He attended Savanna High School, graduating with the Class of 1951. Jason served his country in the United States Air Force as an Electronics and Communications Specialist from 1953 to 1957. On May 15, 1954, Jason married Terese Gregory at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. They celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Jason worked as a Weapons Technician for the Savanna Army Depot for 37 years, until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the American Legion, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Jason loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sports activites and dance recitals. He enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball, fishing, gardening, bird watching, air shows and helping at the Savanna thrift store. He loved animals, especially his many grand-dogs.
Jason will be dearly missed by his wife, Terese of Savanna; four children, Mike (Susie) Truninger of Davenport, Iowa, Mary Jo (Scott) Griffin of Reading, Pennsylvania, Greg (Kimberly) Truninger of Chillocothe, Illinois, and Teresa Ann (Scott) Kunkel of Hazel Green, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Nathan, KayLee, Elyse, Kaiden, Jace, Reese and Madeline; and one brother, Edward (Dorothy) Truninger of Clinton, Iowa.
Jason is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Blanche; and a sister, Jeanette Siedenburg-Hagedorn.
