Jared Harder Sr., age 78, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at his home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2011 in the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.
Jared was born on July 13, 1933, the son of Walter and Alida (Plante) Harder in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He proudly served his country and enlisted in the United States Marines in 1951. Shortly after on April 26, 1955, he married Henrietta Jane Grover, who passed away October 22, 2003.
Jared worked as a Conductor for the Canadian Pacific Railroad, in Milwaukee for 40 years. He was a devout Lutheran who enjoyed history and reading. He was an active member of the Savanna VFW and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Jared will be dearly missed by two sons, Jared (Bobbie Jo) Harder of Clinton, Iowa and Leslie (Darby Petsche) Harder of Savanna; two daughters; Alida (William) Mullenhoff of Princeton, Illinois and Kristine Harder of Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Jason Lee and Justin Lee Harder; three brothers, John Harder, Denis Harder and Kurt Braun; and one sister, Lenore Polowski, all of Merrill, Wisconsin.
Jared was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one infant daughter, Jacqueline Lee.
