Janice Ann Meyer, age 79, of Preston, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 13 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston with Father Phillip Kruse as Celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Preston. Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston, with a Rosary Service held at 3:00 pm.
Janice was born at home on April 30, 1936, in Springbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin and Helen (Clasen) Guckenberger. She attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Springbrook. On July 29, 1961 Janice married the love of her life Robert Meyer in Springbrook. Janice worked for many years as a waitress and cook at the Riverview Restaurant in Bellevue, Iowa and later the Trojan Inn in Preston. She also worked at Maquoketa Livestock. Janice’s biggest joy was being a homemaker and taking care of her family.
She enjoyed quilting with the quilting ladies, sewing, watching the Chicago Cubs and her grandchildren play sports, KMAQ BINGO, attending church dinners,cooking and baking. Most of all she cherished the time that she spent cooking with her grandchildren or for her grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue.
Janice will be dearly missed by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Kelly (Mike) Stoecken of Preston, Terri (John) Krogman of Preston; eight grandchildren, Jacob Stoecken, Markell Stoecken, Nathan(Krystal) Krogman, Brady Krogman, Corey Krogman, Lauren (Brady) Oldag, Shelby Reader, Reilly Reader; one great-grandson, Alex Krogman; three sisters-in-law, Gail Guckenberger of Cedar Rapids, Mary Guckenberger of Cedar Rapids and Shirley (Howard) Torkelson of Plainfield, Illinois; two sisters, Marilyn (Merle) KIlburg of Bellevue and Mary (Joe) Yoerger of Bellevue. Janice is preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Reader; two brothers, Allen Guckenberger, Arvin Guckenberger and a nephew, Nick Yoerger.
