Janice Mae Hankemeier, age 86, of Miles, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at the Clover Ridge Assisted Living Center, Maquoketa, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston, Iowa with Reverend Gregory Geier and Reverend William Warhover officiating. Burial will be in the Andrew Cemetery, Andrew, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. A Memorial fund has been established.
Janice was born on September 1, 1920, the daughter of William and Anna (Haylock) Wurster in Maquoketa, Iowa. She attended Maquoketa High School graduating Class of 1938 and later attended the Nursing Program at St. Ambrose College, in Davenport, Iowa. Janice married Marvin Hankemeier on August 26, 1940 in Missouri. Marvin passed away January 6, 1996.

Janice loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed being a homemaker and farming in the Miles area with her husband. She was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Miles Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and knitting.

Janice will be dearly missed by two sons, Marvin Lee (Sara) Hankemeier and Steve (Bernadette) Hankemeier all of Miles, Iowa; one daughter, Marcia Ralston of Mechanicsville, Iowa; one daughter in-law, Julie Christensen of Stanwood, Iowa; one son in-law, Robert Lomsdalen of DeWitt, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Lois Wurster of Maquoketa; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband; one son, Jon; and one daughter, Sherryl.
