Janet Ann Smith, 78, of Fulton, Illinois, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family Sunday, September 14, 2014 of A.L.S.. A Memorial Service will be held 4:30 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Thomson United Methodist Church, Thomson, Illinois. Inurnment will be in Upper York Cemetery, Argo Fay. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Janet's honor.
Janet was born January 8, 1936 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Howard Wendell and Frances (Bender) Meader. Janet graduated from High School in Littleton, Colorado. After High School she worked in Accounting in Colorado and California. Janet married Ronald P. Smith October 15, 1960 in Newbury, Berkshire, England. They spent four years in Newbury, While Ronald was assigned to Greenham-Common AFB.
Janet will be remembered for her love of cooking and sewing quilts and cross-stitching. She was a lunch cook at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. She worked in the Thomson School District and for the Thomson Library. Janet was a member of the Thomson United Methodist Church.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Ronald Smith; son, Shawn (Sharon) Smith; her two daughters, Renee (David) Adolph and Rhonda (Bruce) Badtke; her mother, Frances Meader of Clinton, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Kelly Smith, Nicholas Smith, Amy Smith, Justine (Matthew) Reinhart, Olivia Adolph, Garrett Badtke, Rachel Badtke, and Anna Badtke; her two sisters, Gail Davis of Georgetown, Texas and Judy Bowen of Helena, Montana; a niece, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard W. Meader and her brother-in-law, Martin Bowen.
