Jane Peterson

Jane G. Peterson, age 96, of Sabula, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 6, 2015, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Sabula United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church, with an Eastern Star service following the visitation. Memorials may be given to the Sabula United Methodist Church in Jane’s memory.
Jane Gladys Hodges was born February 9, 1919, near Sabula, the daughter of William and Rose (Peters) Hodges. She graduated from Sabula High School with the Class of 1936. On October 19, 1939, she was united in marriage to Glen Herbert Peterson at the Methodist Church in Lyons, Iowa. They spent their life together living in Sabula, enjoying their time at the cabin and fishing off their dock. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before Glen’s death on April 30, 1996.
Jane was a homemaker until her family was grown, then she retired from the Sabula Speaker Factory after 24 years. She was a longtime member of the Sabula United Methodist Church, a 66-year member of the Bellevue Chapter #359 Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of the Pythian Sisters. Jane had many hobbies—outside her home, she enjoyed flowers, gardening and feeding the birds. Inside, she loved to do counted-cross-stitch. Jane’s family enjoyed the fruits of her labor with many beautiful pictures.
Jane is survived by her two sons, Larry (Shirley) Peterson of Sabula, and Richard (Donna) Peterson of Sabula; three daughters, Sherry (John) Horst of Sabula, Margo Rockrohr of Clinton, Iowa, and Mary Lou (Gordon) Parks of Clinton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and four step great-great-grandchildren.Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Glen; her parents; two sisters, Bessie Rittmer and Helen Tillis; one son-in-law, Don Rockrohr; and one great-grandson, Doug Horst, Jr.
