James A. Vernon, age 31, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, formerly of Savanna, Illinois, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, as a result of a motorcycle accident. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Cremation rites will follow the service. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, also at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna.
James was born August 25, 1979, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of John Dale and Martha (Newhouse) Vernon. He graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1998. James worked as a machinist for HyPro Incorporated in Elkhorn.
James loved the outdoors, especially fishing and deer and bird hunting. He also enjoyed a little golf and was a fan of the NFL, particularly the Pittsburgh Steelers. James liked all types of racing, whether it be remote controlled cars or helping as part of the pit crew for friends at the Cordova Drag Strip. He always enjoyed riding motorcycles, dirt bikes to road bikes.
James is survived and lovingly remembered by his father, John Dale Vernon of Freeport, Illinois; his brothers and sister, Jerry (Leona) Vernon of Milton, Wisconsin, Joyce (Erik) Best of Camanche, Iowa, William (Cindy) Vernon of Milton, Wisconsin, and John Vernon of Savanna, Illinois; four nephews and four nieces.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Vernon.
