James P. Slattery

James “Jim” P. Slattery, age 83, of Elizabeth, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at his home. A private family mass will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the Church of St. Mary, Elizabeth. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth.
Jim was born May 10, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of James Joseph and Genevieve Mary (Reidy) Slattery. He graduated from Chicago St. Leo High School. Jim married Bridget A. Byrne on March 26, 1965, in Chicago.
Jim worked as a security guard for the Chicago Board of Education, retiring in 1992. He was a wonderful singer who enjoyed Irish music. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Paramount Ambulance, Hospice of Freeport, Dr. Johnson all the nurses and staff at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. Dr. Wells, his staff, Shirley and all the nurses at Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Il for their kindness, compassion and exemplary care given to Jim and his family.
Jim is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Bridget A. Slattery of Elizabeth, Illinois; two daughters, Genevieve (Joe O’Rourke) Slattery of Elizabeth, and Sheila (Wayne) Ortmeier of Elizabeth; one son, Brian (Susan) Slattery of Chicago, Illinois; and five grandchildren, Patrick J. Knasiak, Bridget G. Knasiak, Trevor A. Ruback, Keenan W. Ortmeier, and Liam P. Ortmeier.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
