James A. Shurman

June 25, 1969 — July 24, 2018

James A. Shurman, age 49 of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Mt. Carroll Fire Station. A celebration of life gathering will be held immediately following at the Mt. Carroll Bowling Alley. A memorial fund has been established in James’ memory.

James was born on June 25, 1969, the son of Pete and Brenda (Brauer) Shurman in Rockford, Illinois. He attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1987. He married Amber Johnston on April 21, 2017 in Mt. Carroll.

James worked as a Mechanic for Rescar in Savanna for the past 11 years. Before that, James worked for DURA Automotive Systems and Northern Illinois Diesel. James was an active volunteer with the Mt. Carroll Fire Department for many years. James enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was also a talented artist and could draw anything. James was proud to be a father and loved family cookouts. He also cherished spending time with his family and friends.

James will be dearly missed by his wife, Amber of Mt. Carroll; two children, Caden Shurman and Addison Shurman, both of Mt. Carroll; his father, Pete (Barb) Shurman; his mother, Brenda Shurman; one sister, Crystal (Rick) Cook, one step-sister, Trina Dobbs; and one step-brother, Ryan Enders. James was preceded in death by his grandparents; and one brother, Derek Shurman.
