James “Jim” W. Riley, age 91 of Hanover, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 20, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover from 4:00 to 6:00 on Tuesday, September 24, with a memorial service following at 6:00p.m. Cremation rites have been accorded.
James was born April 8, 1922 in Hoxie, Arkansas, to William Wallace and Lela (Wendel) Riley. He was married to his first wife, Jean Weiters, and they raised Jean’s three children, Gary, Geraldine and Darlene together. Jean passed away in 1964.
Jim married Juanita “Barney” Dunham on April 3. 1970 and gained three sons, Michael, John and David, at that same time.
Jim served in the Navy during World War II. He was a lineman for Western Union, and then worked for Jo-Carroll Electric for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1989. Jim loved his family and adored his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with Barney and loved attending church and spending time with his family. Despite losing his eyesight, he still did everything he did prior to losing his eyesight. He was always willing to help anyone and had the biggest heart. He truly lived the way of God. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gerald Riley; two sisters Thelma Milligan and Virginia Hickman; first wife, Jean; his sons, Gary Werner and John Dunham.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita “Barney” Riley; two sons, Michael (Sally) Dunham of Foley, Alabama and David Dunham of Clinton, Iowa; two daughters, Geraldine Hayes and Darlene Warner; eight grandchildren, Shelly (Scott) Griswold, Michael Dunham, Jim Brimeyer, Jennifer (Jim Terry) Dunham, Mindy Dunham-Henkins, Darcy Dunham, Jamie Hayes and Lindsay (Jim) Martin; ten great-grandchildren, Andrew, Morgan, Hayley, Madelyn, Madison, Alec, Mallory, Willie, Cooper and Alasdair; one great-great- grandson, Connor; two sisters, Betty Davis and Wilma Ferrell and Charlie Henkins, who has remained a special part of his and Barney’s lives.
