James J. Mazur, age 56, of rural Hanover, Illinois, died on Saturday, January 26, 2008 peacefully at his home. It was Jim’s wishes to be cremated and have an informal and lighthearted memorial service which will be held on Saturday February 2, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Elizabeth Community Building in Elizabeth, Illinois. Jim was born May 28, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Ruth E. (Meyer) and Joseph P. Mazur. Jim attended Sullivan High School in Chicago, and received his G.E.D. in 1971. After high school, Jim spent a lot of his time owning and managing apartment buildings in the Chicago area. In 1992, Jim and his family moved to rural Hanover, Illinois, and he has greatly enjoyed the past 16 years here. Since June of 2007, he battled cancer of Unknown Origin.
Jim was an avid hunter, and enjoyed camping, cooking, fishing, boating, poker, reading, good conversation, and a good joke. He was a long-time member of the National Rifle Association.
Jim will be dearly missed by his son Michael E. Mazur of Macomb, Illinois; his fiancé Lynette Murphy of Elizabeth, Illinois; his former wife Meta (Smith) Mazur of Galena, Illinois; his sisters Pat Kavanaugh Kobin of Largo, Florida and Noel Ouellette of San Diego, California; numerous neices, nephews and cousins; and especially all of his friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jean Kavanaugh.
