James "Jim" Laurence Halfman, age 55, of Rock Falls, Illinois, formerly of Thomson, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, unexpectedly at home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson with Reverend Paul Judd of the Thomson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. A memorial fund has been established in Jim’s name.
Jim was born December 19, 1952 in Morrison, Illinois, the son of Laurence and Alice (Morrison) Halfman. He is a graduate of the Thomson High School with the Class of 1971. Jim currently worked at St. Mary’s Cement, Dixon, Illinois since 1984. He loved spending time with his two daughters and granddaughter. Jim also enjoyed woodworking and going to auctions. He would often hear his number read, after the auctioneer would shout "going once, going twice, sold to #....".
Jim will be dearly missed by a daughter, Emily Halfman of Sterling, Illinois; a step-daughter, Jaime (Brent) Thomas of Sterling; his mother, Alice Halfman of Thomson, Illinois; a granddaughter, Jersey Thomas of Sterling; four sisters, JoAnne (Brad) Kloepping of Princeton, Illinois, Karen Shaffer of Thomson, Lisa (Brian) Ruhl of Moline, Illinois and Debbie Halfman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a special friend, Hazel Siddens of Sterling; four nephews; two nieces; two great-nephews; a great-niece; and all of his special friends that he met through auctions. Jim is preceded in death by his father, Laurence L. Halfman.
