James "Jim" Adrian Johnson

Feb 28, 1948 — Aug 19, 2026

James “Jim” Adrian Johnson was born February 28, 1948, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Julius “Jude” and Margaret “Mickey” (Patterson) Johnson. He grew up in Sabula, Iowa, and graduated from Sabula High School with the Class of 1966.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army. From 1968 until 1970, he served on active duty, stationed in Korea, where he drove a supply truck. Following his release from active duty in 1970, Jim continued his service in the Army Reserve until receiving his honorable discharge in 1974.

On November 27, 1970, Jim married Pamela Sandholdt, beginning a life together that would span more than five decades. Jim spent much of his working career with DuPont, where he worked as a forklift operator. He remained with the company through its transition to Bemis and eventually retired after many years of dedicated service.

A proud veteran, Jim was a member of the American Legion and was a believer in the Lutheran faith.

Jim was a man who found plenty of enjoyment in life's simple things. He was happiest tinkering away in his garage with a cold beverage nearby and classic rock playing on the radio. He took great pride in his vehicles and could often be found cleaning, detailing, and polishing them until they looked just right. That same attention to detail extended to his lawn, which he kept meticulously cared for.

Jim also enjoyed target shooting and was a lifelong, loyal Raiders fan. Whether working in his garage, caring for his yard, listening to his favorite music, or cheering on his team, Jim appreciated the familiar routines and simple pleasures that made a good day.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Pam; son, Jason (Joy) Johnson, of Preston, IA; granddaughters, Jayden (Dalton Milder) Johnson, of Miles, IA and Jennessa Johnson, of Coralville, IA; brothers, Bill (Cindy) Johnson, of Sabula and John (Lynn) Johnson, of Sabula; mother-in-law, Gloria Sandholdt, of Sabula; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Den) Highstrom and Sheila (Jim) Rittmer; and brothers-in-law, Chuck (Kim) Sandholdt and Steve (Deb) Sandholdt. He is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, George Sandholdt; brother, Joe Johnson; and sister, Jerry (Dave) Wise.
