James Allen Burden, age 73, of Mt. Carroll Illinois passed away Monday, September 14, 2015 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll with Military Rites by the Mt. Carroll American Legion. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in his honor.
James was born February 7, 1942, the son of Eugene and Irene (Wallace) Burden in Lima, Ohio. He attended Wapakoneta High School, Wapakoneta, Ohio and graduated with the Class of 1960. James married Linda Flemmons on November 7, 1960. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for nine years on the USS Barracuda (SST-3) stationed in Key West, Florida during the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After living in Ohio and Florida, James and his wife Linda moved to northern Illinois, he worked at the Kelly Springfield Tire Co., Freeport. James was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and enjoyed watching Ohio State Football, and the Cincinnati Bengals.
James will be dearly missed by his wife of 54 years, Linda; three daughters, Kim (Tedd) Schnitzler of Mt. Carroll, Denise (Rusty) Ewalt of Clinton, Iowa, and Jan (Rick) Swick of Beloit, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Brandy (Larry) Johnson, Brandon Schnitzler and James Ewalt; two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Hunter; and four sisters, Gloria Rowe, Susie (Frank King) Stolzenburg, Joyce (Jerry) Sims, and Debra (Frank) Rostorfer, all of Wapakoneta, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Irene Burden.
