James A. “Jim” Betts, age 69, of Preston, Iowa, was a fighter that never gave up, when it came to his health. Jim entered into eternity on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral will be held on 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston with Pastor Gregory Geier officiating. Burial will take place in Miles Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. A memorial fund has been established in Jim’s memory.
Jim was born on April 29, 1945, the son of James and Mrytle (Leonard) Betts in Clinton, Iowa. He attended Preston High School and graduated with the Class of 1963. Jim worked as a truck driver for Henningsen Brothers in Preston, Ruan and National By Products both in Clinton.Jim enjoyed stock car races and demolition derbies. He had a passion for "professional" wrestling, Bonanza, Family Fued and the Dating Game. Most of all he cherished the time he spent with his family.
Jim will be dearly missed by his children, Dr. Richard (Jeff Simpson) Betts of Preston, Ramona (Tom) Diedrich of Moline, Illinois, Stephan (Tammy) Betts of Preston, Aaron (Lindsay Voss) Betts of Charlotte, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; one great granddaughter and a brother, Greg (Mary) Betts of Clinton, Iowa. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rhonda Betts.
