Jacob “Jake” Hofman, age 98, of Savanna, Illinois, formerly of Herrick, Illinois and The Netherlands, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Greenville, Illinois, with Bill Stringer officiating.
Jacob was born August 19, 1918 in Warfhuizen, Netherlands, the son of Teeuwes and Klazina (Holtrop) Hofman. He married Patricia (Pieterke) Buikema on February 25, 1941 in the Netherlands. Jake served as a private in the Dutch Army during World War II fighting for the Allied Forces.
In December of 1956, Jake and Patricia came to the U.S., where they settled in West Chicago, Illinois. Jake was a member of the Suburban Teamsters of Northern Illinois and worked as a driver for a disposal company for thirty-three years, retiring in 1985.
