Irene C. Trenkamp, age 81 of Preston, Iowa, died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Finley Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa. A funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, with Father Paul Lippstock as Celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Sugar Creek, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 27, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, with a scripture wake service being held 6:30 p.m. at the church.
Irene was born on December 21, 1928, in Preston, Iowa, the daughter of William and Catherine (Diedrich) Reuter. She attended school at Sugar Creek. Irene married Leo Trenkamp on January 24, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sugar Creek.
Irene and Leo farmed together outside of Preston for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Irene enjoyed embroidering, gardening and canning. She was also very involved with local blood drives in Preston, helping to pass out cookies and juice to people who donated. But it was taking care of her family that gave Irene her greatest joy, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Irene is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Leo Trenkamp of Preston, Iowa; five children, Monica (Dwaine) Schroeder, of Goose Lake, Iowa, Lois (Dan) Burken of Miles, Iowa, Tom (Barb) Trenkamp of Sugar Creek, Iowa, Diane Russen of Clinton, Iowa, and Roy (Pamela) Trenkamp of Waterloo, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, Viola Weimerskirch of Maquoketa, Iowa, Madonna Heister of Preston, Pat (Harold) McClure of Camanche, Iowa, and Jerome (Carol) Reuter of Charlotte, Iowa.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Francis Reuter; two sisters, Mary Ann Roling and Bernadette Yoerger; and one great granddaughter.
