Inge Berg, age 76, of Stockton, IL, passed on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at her home, with her family by her side. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Hanover, IL. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, in Hanover. Family and friends are invited to share in Inge’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.

Inge was born January 24, 1947, in Steinheim, Germany, the daughter of Frederick and Herta (Schatz) Kressebuch. One day, while working in a local factory, one of her girlfriends told her that her boyfriend had a friend who was interested in Inge. She asked Inge if she would like to go out with an American. Soon after, Inge was on a first date with a young U.S. Army Soldier named Buddy E. Berg. Two years later, on March 15, 1965, shorty before his deployment was set to end, Budd and Inge were married in Switzerland.

Budd brought his new bride back to the States, settling in Schaapville, IL. They farmed for a short time, then moved to Hanover where Budd secured a job at the Savanna Army Depot. About a year later, Budd’s old Army pal, the one who had a hand in setting up Budd and Inge, reached out about a job opportunity in California. Budd and Inge moved across the country and began working at an Army Hospital. It was in California where their first child, a son, was born, and about five years later, Budd and Inge moved back to Hanover, where they had their second child, a daughter.

Upon their return to Illinois, Inge worked for Eaton Corp for many years, before opening her own business, Swiss Miss Knitting, in Hanover. Inge loved to knit and ran her shop with pride.

She also loved to travel, especially to Germany. She and Budd made many trips to her home country. Family was everything to Inge and she kept close ties to her children as they aged, and also to her father. He made many visits to Budd and Inge’s home over the years, often staying for up to a year at a time before returning to Germany.

If she wasn’t spending time with her family, Inge could often be found walking her beloved pug, Olivia, or playing games on her tablet. Inge will be dearly missed by her husband, Budd; son, Budd (Rich Scherbarth) Berg, Jr., of Davenport, IA; daughter, Sissy (Don) Zink, of Stockton, IL; granddaughter, Jessica Zink; brother, Hansi (Elfriede) Kressebuch; sister, Anna Heuser; and nephew, Stefan Kressebuch; and her dog, Olivia. Inge is preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Herta and brother-in-law, Kurt Heuser.
