Inez Fern Johns

Inez Fern Johns, age 88, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with Konrad Radke officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 25, 2011at the Law-Jones Funeral Home Savanna. Burial will follow in the Tracy Memorial Cemetery, Tracy California. Memorials may be directed to the Savanna Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, in honor of Inez.
Inez was born number ninth of eleven children on August 16, 1922, the daughter of Joseph & Anne (Atkins) Hastings, in Lake Benton, MN., She graduated from Savanna High School, Class of 1940 and went on to earn a Teaching Degree from Northern Illinois State Normal School, DeKalb, Illinois. On September 24, 1951, Inez married Clyde Johns in Carson City, Nevada. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1985.
Inez performed clerical duties for the Bendix Company, Chicago until 1945, and then she waitressed at Helsings and the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, where she waited on Joseph P. Kennedy, a memory she always held. Inez waitressed for several restaurants in the Savanna area. While living in California, Inez worked for the Sears Roebuck Company.
Inez joined the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints in 1955; she held the position of President for the Relief Society for several years. Inez was dedicated to her church work; she enjoyed reading and doing hand-crafts.
Inez is survived and lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Inez was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clyde Johns; four brothers, Merle, Clifford, Raymond and Richard; six sisters, Loretta Dyson, Velma Gillogy, Zelma Peterson, Beatrice Wall, Etta David and Edna Cullen.
