Imelda C. (Stillmunks) Bailey

Imelda C. (Stillmunks) Bailey, age 101, of Hanover, Illinois, died Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Stonehill Franciscan Services, Dubuque, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, with a Rosary Service held at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.
Imelda was born April 5, 1909, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of John and Rose (Harmon) Stillmunks. She attended Immaculate Conception High School and Bayless Business College in Dubuque. Imelda married Laurence D. Bailey on November 14, 1929, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1977.
Imelda was not only a loving mother and wife, she was also a business woman. Imelda and Laurence owned and operated the Sunset Motel in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, the Ames Motor Lodge in Ames, Iowa, and the Rock Falls Motel in Rock Falls, Illinois, from 1959 to 1978, where she was the bookkeeper. She was very involved in the church, donating her time and talents crocheting for church events. Imelda also enjoyed playing cards.
Imelda is survived and lovingly remembered by daughters, Connie (Tom) Sheridan of Hanover, Illinois, and Mary Beth (Joseph) McCormick of Oak Park, Illinois; son Charles “Chuck” (Midge) Bailey of Dubuque, Iowa, and Alan Bailey (Deceased); one daughter – in – law, Billie Bailey of Mt. Joy, Pennsylvania; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; one sister in – law, Ilsa Stillmunks of Dubuque; and one brother in – law, Elmer Friedman of Dubuque.
Imelda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, one grandchild, six sisters, Evelyn Schrup, Leona Quirk, Gladys Faha, Veronica Robinson, Alvina Piersch, Violet Mentz and Rosemary Friedman; four brothers, Lloyd Stillmunks, Arnold Stillmunks, Harmon Stillmunks and John Stillmunks.
