Ian James Jones, died June 26, 2006, in a swimming accident in Mendocino, California. Ian was born May 29, 1994 in Santa Monica, California, the son of Brian and Ellen Jones. Brian Jones was a former Savanna resident. A Memorial Service was held in Westchester, California on Friday, July 7, 2006.
Ian lived life with zest and exuberance, inspiring his peers and elders alike. A sports and nature enthusiast, Ian especially enjoyed basketball, soccer, wrestling, and track. He was a member of the Westside Neighborhood Schools track team; he currently holds the schools second place record for the mile. Ian also served as a youth referee for the American Youth Soccer Organization. An avid reader and gifted student with a keen intellect and inquisitive imagination, Ian was recently awarded first place in his division at his schools science competition for his project entitled Got Sun- Solar Purification Apparatus which he presented at the Los Angeles County Science Fair earlier this year. He was already at work on next years project involving metal forging. Ian brought joy to the lives of everyone he met. He is survived by many loving relatives and friends, including his parents, Brian and Ellen Jones; sister Gwendolyn, age 8; and brother, Trevor, 2 ½ years old; his grandmother, Janet Jones and great grandparents, Charles and Louise Hodge, all of Savanna; his grandfather,C.J. Jones of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Savanna.
