Horace Adin Fetterolf, age 100, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died, Sunday, December 30, 2007, at Big Meadows Nursing Facility in Savanna, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Carroll, with Reverend David Vidler officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008, prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Horace’s memory.
Horace was born on August 22, 1907, in Perth, Kansas, the son of James and Margrete (Wetzel) Fetterolf. He graduated from the Mount Carroll High School, Class of 1925. Horace married Ruby Edlefson on September 21, 1935 in Manlius, Illinois. Ruby passed away on March 13, 1994.
Horace owned and operated Fetterolf Plumbing and Heating in Mount Carroll for 35 years. When he retired, Horace worked in maintenance for Shimer College in Mount Carroll. He played the String Bass in the Clinton, Rockford and Quad City Orchestra for 30 years. Horace was a lifetime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Carroll. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Most of all, Horace loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Horace will be dearly missed by one son, Rodney (Dodie) Fetterolf in Dixon, Illinois; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Fetterolf of Belvidere, Illinois; five grandchildren, Deborah, Tammie, Brent, Brian and Andrew; and one great grandson, Kaden.
Horace was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; one son, Berkley; two brothers, Luther and Arthur; and one sister, Vera.
