Herman L. Deutscher, age 82, of Savanna, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will take place in Round Grove Cemetery, Dwight, Illinois at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in Herman’s memory.
Herman was born September 23, 1932, in Hope County, Michigan, the son of Herman and Elsie (Havens) Deutscher. He attended Dwight High School and graduated with the class of 1950. He married Marie McCarter on April 25, 1953, in Campus, Illinois. Marie passed away February 19, 2015. Herman proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.
Herman worked as an Ammunition Inspector for the U.S. Government for 35 years until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed going camping, boating and vacationing to state parks with the whole family. Herman loved working on cars, snow skiing, water skiing, riding his jet ski, cycling, and especially spending time with his grandkids.
Herman will be dearly missed by his children, Alice (Rick) O’Neill of Aurora, IL, Tony (Tammy) Deutscher of Thomson, IL, Vickie (David) Costello of Camanche, IA, and Jody (Kelly) Deutscher of Eagle River, WI; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie; and his parents.
