Henry G. Knapp, age 86, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Monday, July 31, 2006 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2006 at Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2006 prior to the Funeral Service. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Henry was born November 30, 1919 in Lyons, Iowa, the son of William and Julia (Quinn) Knapp. He served in the United States Navy. Henry married Irene Noble, on April 30, 1942 in Galena, Illinois.
Henry was a very hardworker. He was employed by the Savanna Army Depot as a Forklift Operator. He also farmed in the area for over 50 years. Henry enjoyed carpentry, gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Henry is survived by his wife, Irene of Elizabeth, Illinois; three grandsons, David (Sheila) Knapp of Crestone, Colorado, Bryan (Melody), Knapp of Elizabeth, Illinois, and Daniel (Karen) Knapp, Clinton, Iowa; eight great grandchildren, Patrick M., Monica, Andrew, Teri, Emily, Patrick S., Hannah and Kaleb; a special niece Rose (Robert) Mielke of Pecatonica, Illinois, and many other nieces and nephews; three great nieces, Sharon (Kelvin) Krise of Freeport, Illinois, Susan (Tom) Reilly of Freeport, Illinois, Theresa (Mark) Klenz of Rock City, Illinois; two great nephews Gary (Cindy) Mielke of Ridott, Illinois and Gerald Mielke of Riddott, Illinois; fifteen great- great grand nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great niece.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents; one son Melvin, two brothers, Howard and Homer, one infant sister and one half sister Mary Quinn.
