Henry Earl "Hank" Legel

Henry Earl “Hank” Legel, age 84, of Fulton, and formerly of Thomson, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. Burial will be in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson followed by a luncheon at Triple Play Bowling Alley, Fulton at approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday. Visitation will be held 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, or Living Lands & Water Cleanup. Hank was born April 22, 1929 in Thomson, the son of Elva and Gertrude (Chesbro) Legel. He attended Thomson area schools. On February 26, 1949, Hank married Leona Langrehr in Camanche, Iowa. She passed away April 10, 2004 in Clinton. They celebrated fifty-five years of marriage.
Hank owned and operated Hank’s Fish and Grocery in Fulton for thirty-five years with his wife, Leona. They were known for their Lottery sales. He also worked as a commercial fisherman and truck driver. He was a Teamsters Union member. Hank enjoyed fishing, boating, bowling, gambling, jigsaw puzzles and traveling. During the past several years, Hank lived at the Harbor Crest Nursing facility in Fulton, where he had many friends and was known as the “head towel folder” and “weather man.” He appreciated their care and enjoyed those years.
Hank is survived by his two daughters, Earline (Warren) Deelsnyder of Fulton and Diane (Mike) Herrera of Fulton; three grandchildren, Craig (Mary) Deelsnyder of St. Paul, MN, Mindy (Matt) Hilgendorf of Clinton and Dustin Larkey of Downers Grove, Illinois; one great-grandson, Lucas Hilgendorf; one sister, Beverly Noordt of Clinton; three half-sisters, Roxie Schultz, Jeanne Clark and Barb Spease, and one half-brother, Jerry Legel.
Henry is preceded in death by his wife, Leona; an infant daughter, Tammy; one brother, Richard Legel; a half-brother, Donald Legel; two brothers, Robert and Jim Legel; and his parents.
