Helen E. Wolber age 86, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll. A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place at Brookville Lutheran Cemetery, Brookville, Illinois. A visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2018 at the funeral home prior to the service.
Helen was born on October 25, 1931 on the family farm in Polo, Illinois, the daughter of George and Ruth (Owen) Brooks. Helen attended Polo High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. She later went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. On June 14, 1959, Helen married the love of her life Ron Wolber. They had first met while skating at the White Pines Roller Palace, Polo. They celebrated 59 years together. Ron passed away August 31, 2018.
Helen taught kindergarten for the Mt. Carroll CUD #304 for 33 years. In her retirement she was a substitute teacher for many schools in the area. Helen volunteered much of her time selling tickets at home games for volleyball and basketball games for man years.
Helen was a member of the retired teachers, and the Church of the Brethren in Lanark, Illinois. She enjoyed going to toy shows and going to the Sterling McDonald’s on Sunday nights to meet with friends. Helen treasured taking day trips and loved spending time with her family with Ron by her side.
Helen is survived by her son, Jody Wolber of Mt. Carroll; grandson, Justin (Ashely) Wolber; two great-grandsons, Corbin and Brody; brother, George Wayne (Carolyn) Brooks of Dixon, Illinois; brother in-law, Kenny Mumford of Dixon and many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; grandson, Dakota and sister, Leonor Mumford.
