Helen M. Weber, age 95, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given to the Mt. Carroll Church of God in Helen’s memory.
Helen was born on October 6, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Louella (Webster) Hines in Coleta, Illinois. Helen spent most of her life in Carroll County. On September 16, 1938, Helen married Eugene Preston in Maquoketa, Iowa. She later married Donald Buckwalter on August 6, 1958 in Mt. Carroll. They celebrated forty-five years of marriage until Donald’s passing on July 6, 1984. After Don’s death, Helen married Louis “Mike” Weber on December 19, 1989. Mike died on March 25, 2002.
Helen worked for several local companies including the Savanna Army Depot, Kraft Foods in Milledgeville, and G&E Cleaners in Mt. Carroll. Helen also worked as an Inspector at Atwood Vacuum Machine in Mt. Carroll, retiring after twenty years, in 1986. She loved volunteering and volunteered for over twenty-six years, mostly for the Carroll County Help Center and the Carroll County Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She was a longtime member of the Mt. Carroll Church of God and the Mt. Carroll and Chadwick American Legion Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, gardening and tending to her yard. Most of all, Helen cherished spending time with her friends and family.
Helen will be dearly missed by her two sons, Nelson (Jenean) Preston of Apache Junction, Arizona and Ronald (Freddie) Preston of Savanna, Illinois; four stepsons, Larry (Carol) Buckwalter of Rockford, Illinois, Edward (Kathy) Buckwalter of Chetek, Wisconsin, Zane Buckwalter of Scottsboro, Alabama, and Mick (Lorna) Weber of Sommerville, South Carolina; one stepdaughter, Judy (Dan) Hoffman of Forreston, Illinois; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Louella, three husbands, Eugene, Donald and Mike; two great grandsons, seven sisters, four brothers, one stepson, and one stepdaughter.
