Helen Lorrayne Shreffler, age 84 of Thomson, Illinois, died on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 26, 2012 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. A memorial fund has been established in Helen's memory.
Helen was born on November 2, 1927, the daughter of Franklin and Helen (Stahl) Reils at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, Illinois. She attended Wilmington High School and graduated with the Class of 1945. Helen married Harry J. Shreffler on May 21, 1950 at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington. Harry passed away on December 27, 1981.
Helen was employed as a Secretary at the Joliet Arsenal for twelve years. She later worked as a Secretary for the Thomson School District for twenty-two years, retiring in 1988. Helen then volunteered with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary for nineteen years. She loved volunteering at the hospital and at the Savanna Thrift Shop. Helen loved to cook and take care of her family. Most of all, Helen loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Helen will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Jill (Gary) Iben of Thomson, Illinois and Jan (Chris) Wilkinson of Huntsville, Alabama; four grandchildren, Stephanie and Brian Iben and Kelli and Chad Wilkinson; two brothers in-law, Ralph (Iona) Shreffler of Mesa, Arizona and Vern Ferguson of Benton, Illinois; one sister in-law, Patricia Shreffler of Bel Air, Maryland and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry and one brother Gerald Reils.
