Helen Kathryn Posada

Helen Kathryn Posada was born January 5th 1934 in Savanna, Illinois, to Joseph and Carmen Posada. Helen’s parents died at a young age leaving her to be raised by her older siblings. She was very close to her brother Johnny, they loved going to the movie theatre together for entertainment. Johnny was her best friend and protector. She also remained a close friend to all of her sisters.
Helen went to Catholic grade school. In high school she was a Cheerleader, she Performed with Drama Club, and the Athletic Club. Helen was popular at high school, her nick name was Pudge. Ironically she was skinny as a stick! After High School she attended and graduated from Cosmetology School.
On April 15th 1955 Helen married Leonard Schmidt, following was the birth of four daughters: Deborah, Sandra, Michelle and June. Helen would also become a grandmother to her four grandchildren: Robert, Christopher, Lisa, Michelle, and great-grandmother to Matthew and Harmony. They all brought her much joy.
Helen worked in the field of insurance at a variety of positions, the last being a Work Comp Adjuster, which she loved. Helen would volunteer at Misacordia Thrift Store every Saturday. She also bowled on a bowling league. Helen was a diehard Blackhawks and Cubs fan.
In 2003, Helen visited Arizona and fell in love with the area. She moved here the same year. Helen continued to volunteered two days a week at a Thrift Store, also bowling two days a week. Helen was a devout Catholic never missing church, until becoming sick in the end.
Everyone who knew Helen knew her for her kindness, gentleness, and her willingness to listen. Helen was truly a lady never using foul language. We were proud of our mother’s strength and diligence in getting through hard times. She came from very little and made a successful life for herself. We will miss her dearly.
A memorial gathering will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
