Helen Nieland, 93, of Clinton, Iowa, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Spragueville, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home, prior to the service. Memorials may be given in Helen’s honor.
Helen was born February 18, 1914, the daughter of John and Emma (Eckelberg) Nieland in Spragueville, Iowa. She attended the North Bend Country School, Spragueville, and graduated 8th grade from the Deep Creek Country School, Preston.
Helen worked at the Clinton Garment Factory for thirty years, retiring in 1979. She was a past member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union Local #303. In her spare time Helen worked on quilting. She also spent time reading, traveling and watching the Chicago Cubs. Over the last six years, Helen enjoyed her residence at the Alverno in Clinton.
Helen will be dearly missed by her sister in-law, Evelyn Nieland; five nieces and nephews, Karen (Raymond) Feltes, Wayne (Nancy) Nieland, Myra (David) Franzen, Gary Nieland, and Linda Nieland; eight great nieces and nephews; and nine great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Louis, Henry, LaVerne and Willis.
