Helen May Manning, age 77, of Mount Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, September 17, 2005 at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Reverend Dave Davies of the Hope United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will take place at the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Helen was born April 15, 1928 in Morrison, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Eva May (Glazier) Jacobs. She married Arthur Clem Henry Manning on January 2, 1948 at the Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick. Arthur passed away on August 3, 1991 in Clinton, Iowa. Helen farmed with her husband in the Mt. Carroll/Chadwick area for 20 years. Helen and Arthur were members of “The Grange” organization. She worked for ALCO in Savanna and K-WAY in Mt. Carroll. She also cooked at a restaurant as well. Helen’s family was important to her and she loved them very much. She enjoyed cooking, reading, riding bicycles, and listening to music. She also enjoyed going to auctions and garage sales with her friends and family.
Helen will be deeply missed by her children, Eva May Buchholz of Fulton, Illinois and Richard (Tita) Manning of Sterling Heights, Michigan; six grandchildren, Chad, Philip, Tiffany, Brandon, Dustin, and Sharisse; numerous nieces and nephews; and her close friends. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; two brothers, Frank and George Jacobs; and sister, Hazel Pitts.
