Helen Louise Livingston November 19, 1927- August 23, 2017
Helen was born in Honolulu Hawaii to Colonel Clifford Cleophus Duell and his wife, Marion. Helen was a self- proclaimed “Army Brat”. Her family lived all over the country, including Ft Bragg North Carolina, Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, Lafayette Indiana, and Troy New York. She had two brothers and a younger sister. Her sister, Joan, remembers times spent together with their dog Cleo. She spoke of being afraid of walking through a field of grasshoppers, and her sister carrying her through it to keep them away. In adulthood, the two shared many happy times filled with laughter.
Helen was competitive as a girl, and participated in tennis and running events. She was also an avid equestrienne. She spent a year at Russel Sage in Troy New York, and then, at her father’s insistence, finished her degree at Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana. It was there she met the love of her life, Wayne Livingston. They were married in the Episcopal Church in Bloomington on February 11, 1951.
Helen taught English and History at the high school in Park Forest Illinois for many years. She stopped teaching full time and worked as a substitute teacher after their children came along.
Helen loved to garden, cook and keep a lovely home. She was an accomplished seamstress and made beautiful clothing for herself and her family. She was also a self - taught painter. She adorned their home with oil paintings that she created. Most of all, Helen Loved to make people laugh.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Her brothers Clifford and Frederick Duell, Her sister and brother in law, June and Bill Pottorf and her nephews Barry Duell, James Duell, Steven Duell and David Pottorf.
She is survived by her Husband, their children, Michael (Martha) Livingston, and Cynthia (Mladen) Martinovic. Also, her granddaughters Jessica and Kaitlyn Livingston, Her sister Joan (Franklin) Pitzer, and nieces Karyl (Samir) Gabriel, and Susan Stowe. Also, Her nieces Beverly Duell, Suzie Cravatta, and nephews Clifford Duell, Wayne Duell, David Duell, and Brent Pottorf.
