Hazel M. Kemp, age 68, of Spragueville, Iowa passed away at the Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa, Iowa, on Monday, September 25, 2006. A Funeral Service will be held at 10: 30 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2006 at the Salem Lutheran Church, Spragueville, Iowa. Pastor Dwaine Priebe will officiate. Burial will be in the Spragueville Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. In leiu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established in Hazel’s memory.

Hazel was born on July 25, 1938 the daughter of Harold and Elsie (Kurst) Floyd. She married James L. Kemp on July 3, 1958 at the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. She was a Nurse’s Aide at the Flagel Nursing Home in Maquoketa for many years. She also worked with her husband James, helping to deliver the Clinton Herald newspaper in the Preston area. Hazel’s hobbies include crocheting, needlework, sewing, canning and gardening. Hazel enjoyed writing letters and visiting with her family, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Hazel is survived by her husband, James of Spragueville, Iowa; six sons, James L. (Barb) Kemp Jr. of Maquoketa, Iowa, David C. Kemp of Maquoketa, Bruce W. Kemp of Maquoketa, Craig C. (Jackie) Kemp of Clinton, Iowa, Larry K. Kemp of Spragueville, Iowa and Steve L. Kemp of Spragueville; four daughters, Susan M. Slager of Spragueville, Karen A. Friend of Dubuque, Iowa, Carla K. (Duane) Poll of Bellevue, Iowa and Pamela S. Kemp of Spragueville; eighteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Raymond (Janice) Floyd of Charlotte, North Carolina; four sisters, Bonnie (Bob) Ellithorpe of Maquoketa, Gladys (Mike) Verhulst of Ottumwa, Iowa, Barb (Ron) Holden of Andrew, Iowa and Judy Floyd of Oxford Junction, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews..

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents; one brother Kenny and one infant sister.
