Savanna, IL

Hazel Lorraine Getz, age 84, of Savanna, Illinois, went to her eternal rest on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at her home on the farm in rural Savanna. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Savanna Township Cemetery in Savanna, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, prior to the funeral. Memorials may be made to the Carroll County Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation.

Hazel was born on May 4, 1942, at Savanna City Hospital, to Warner and Irma (Boothby) Hartman. She attended Argo Fay School through sixth grade before continuing her education in Chadwick, graduating from Chadwick High School in 1960. She then attended Rockford School of Business and Engineering in Rockford, Illinois, and graduated in September 1961. In October 1961, she began her banking career at the Mt. Carroll National Bank where she served in various positions, including stenographer, teller, bookkeeper, and internal auditor. After thirty years, she retired in December 1991.

On September 5, 1965, Hazel married Leroy Getz at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church. When she was not at the bank, she farmed right alongside Leroy, driving tractors for field work, milking cows, and feeding calves while also maintaining the household and handling the bookwork. Together, they celebrated 61 years of marriage and raised two children: a daughter Lori and a son Ronald.

Over the years, Hazel shared her love of music with the community as an organist and choir director at the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, a choir member at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church, and a baritone player with the Mt. Carroll Community Stage Band. For years, she served with her husband as a leader of the Tip Top Troopers 4-H Club and was also an active member of the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, the United Methodist Women, the Preston Prairie Club, and the Jacobstown Community Club. In addition, she loved gardening and cooking and had a special love for her cows, cats, and dogs.

Hazel will be dearly missed by her husband, Leroy; daughter, Lori (Martin) Kyger, of Rock Falls, Illinois; son, Ronald (Linda) Getz, of Savanna, Illinois; grandson, Riley Getz, of Savanna, Illinois; granddaughter, Lakin (John) Morgan, of Chadwick, Illinois; a great-grandchild on the way; and two sisters-in-law, Judith Hartman, of Colona, Illinois, and Florence Sisler, of Coralville, Iowa. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, Warner and Irma Hartman; her brother, Lowell Hartman; three sisters-in-law, and four brothers-in-law; and a precious grandchild who was called home before birth.
