Harvey W. Morrison

Harvey W. Morrison, age 92, of Stockton, Illinois, formerly of rural Elizabeth, Illinois, died on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois from complications due to surgery. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Reverend David Vidler of Trinity Lutheran Church, Derinda, Illinois officiating. Burial will follow in Derinda Methodist Cemetery, Derinda. Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth, one hour prior to the Funeral Service. A Memorial Fund has been established in Harvey’s memory. Donations will be divided equally between Shriner’s Hospital for Children and the Easter Seals.
Harvey was born on April 22, 1916, the son of Thomas and Christiana (Randecker) Morrison at their home farm in Derinda. The farm was bought by his grandfather and has been in the family ever since. He attended grade school at Derinda Center School and graduated from Elizabeth High School. Harvey spent his life farming, where he raised hogs, cattle and chickens. Harvey always enjoyed farming and never thought of it as work. He especially loved farming with his Allis Chalmers tractors. Harvey was always a caregiver to his entire family and in 2002 he moved to Stockton to care for his sister. Family always came first. He loved fishing, gardening, farming and hunting. He was an excellent marksman and always hit his mark. Harvey played baseball and was a pitcher for Jo Daviess County. He was quite the ball player and planned on attending Dizzy Dean’s Baseball Camp in hopes of joining the Minor Leagues but was unable to attend because of obligations to his family.
Survivors include one nephew, George (Linda) Raw of Fort Collins, Colorado; two nieces, Kristy (Gary) Ekstrom of Maple Park, Illinois and Dorothy Walker of Holts Summit, Missouri; niece in-law, Marlene Morrison of Lily Lake, Illinois; great nephews, Robert (Barbara) Gomez; Julio (Erika) Gomez, Steve (Stacey) Ekstrom, Jeremy McIlvaine and Kyle Walker; great nieces, Melisa (Marcus) Desharnais, Jill Ekstrom, Maryellen (fiancé Brandon Moran) Ekstrom, JoAnn (Barry) Paxton, Diana (Donald) Stoll, Sara (Jim) Polacek, Savannah (fiancé Kyle Luebbering) Walker, great-great nieces and nephews, Zoe Gomez, Alex and Michael Ekstrom, Justin McIlvaine, Amanda, Kymber and Madisyn Feece, Jori and Kelsey Schmalz, Kori, Kristi and Katie Stoll, Justis, Journey and Finley Polacek .
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Lawrence, Maynard and John; four sisters, Gladys Ryder, Genevra Erhart. Claribel Raw, and Carolyn Helman.
